Continental Fleet Service workers fell short for the third time in their bid to join the Transport Workers Union. The Machinists Union sympathizes with the struggle of Continental’s Fleet Service, Customer Service and Reservation workers. However, we view this as only a temporary setback.
The Machinists Union will not abandon our efforts to bring first-class, effective representation to Continental workers. Only the Machinists Union has the expertise, resources and bargaining power to negotiate the wages, benefits and secure pensions Continental workers deserve. IAM-represented Flight Attendants are the only Continental employees who did not have to endure base wage reductions in the company’s recent restructuring. In fact, the Machinists Union negotiated a wage increase for our members while all other Continental workers suffered pay cuts. Only the Machinists Union can wed the bargaining power of 10,000 Flight Attendants with Continental Fleet Service, Customer Service and Reservation workers to utilize even more negotiating leverage for the benefit of all our members.
